Think about it. With the death of Redskins safety Sean Taylor, it really is just sports.

The Phat Jerk: 11/21/07
Watch as Matt Reid picks the winners in this week’s high school football playoff games. As an added bonus, listen as Jim Sacco butchers the spoken word by calling Reid a “procrastinator” instead of a “prognosticator.” Really, Jim? Did Matt not show up in time or something?

The Sports Desk 11/21/07
When The Sports Desk gets dirty it’s up to sports editor Jim Sacco and freelance photographer Matt Reid to clean it up with little, if any, help from Mr. Gibbles, the fold-up Thanksgiving Turkey.

Third and nine for Lee
Scott picks up five yards and brought down at the 5. Gets the penatly yards back and it’s fourth and three on the Draft 5: 30 left to play.
Scott looks to pass, scrambles and may pick up the touchdown. And yes, they signal the score. PAT is good and Lee cuts the lead to 22-14. I missed the time left (I know, that’s kind of important.)
Good drive by Lee, but man, they can’t break down with penalties this time with Draft holding the ball.

Draft with the ball
1st and 10 Draft inside its own 20: Sweep to the left side, T. Taylor and picks up, maybe, one.
2nd and 9: Handoff to Miller, sweep to the right and picks up the first down.
1st and 10 on Draft’s 28: Flags on the play. False start on Stuarts Draft. Moves the ball back to the 21.
First and 15: 8:11 left to play. Pitch to T. Taylor, picks up six yards.
Second and 9 for the Cougars: 7:27 left to play. Ball on Draft’s 27. A sweep to the right, Miller hit at the line and falls down.
But guess what, Chip says, flags on the play. And it’s a personal foul facemask.
Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. Will someone get control of this team! Seriously. You don’t win playoff games with dumb personal fouls.

Fourth and five
Draft brings out the punting unit. Touchback and Lee takes over at their own 20, down by eight with 4:43 left to play.
Jenkins run for one.
Second and 9 from the 21: Scott keeps it up the middle and he fumbles it and Draft recovers it.
YOu can hear the crowd going crazy over the radio. Wow. And Draft gets great field position with 4:03 left to play at Lee’s 30. If it’s not fouls, it’s turnovers for the Leemen.

6:55 left
Taylor in motion. QB keeper for two yards. Miller fooled Chip, he said he though Miller had the ball.
Second and 8 for the Cougars: And the Cougars are taking their time. Miller run to the right,.
Third and five for Draft: 5:18 to play and the clock is running. Fumble on the play! But Draft fell on it. Lucky break there for Draft.
Fourth and four for Draft on its own 48: What to do? What to do if you’re Rob Bowers?

Scott down for Lee
Lee’s QB, who just fumbled, is hobbling off the field.
Cougar ball 1st and 10 from Lee’s 30: 4:03 left to play.
22-14 Cougar lead.
T. Taylor picks up five yards.
Second and five: clock still running, 3:36 and Draft driving off the Lee turnover. Sweep to Taylor on the left side, hit at the line and gained one on the run.
Clock still running.
3rd and four: 2:58 left to play. Ball on the Leemen 25. Pitch to Miller, cut it back up and taken down by the eight and that’s enough for the first as most 17-yard run are. But Miller is down injured right now.

First and goal for Draft
Taylor sweep left and downed at the five. That’s a four-yard gain.
Lee burns a timeout with 1:38 on the clock. They have one left.
Draft up 22-14 in the fourth quarter.
Second and goal from the six for the Cougars: Pitch to Taylor, brougth down and Lee calls final timeout with 1:42 left.
Third and four for Draft: Taylor hit at the line of scrimmage. But that clock is still rolling.
Cougars bring out the FG unit and there is 1 minute left. Fourth and goal on the four for Draft.
Cougars hit the field goal. It’s 25-14 with one minutes left.
Folks, this one is over.

Final thoughts on Draft’s 25-14 win
Good game plan by Draft coach Rod Bowers gave the Cougars this win.
Oh, and so did some really, really, dumb penalties by the Leemen. Lee has got to learn that, against a disciplined team like Stuarts Draft, unsportsmanlike penalties are going to kill you.
They’ll learn someday, right?
Anyway, we’ll do this again next week.
Have a safe weekend and congrats to both Draft and Lee
